The group meets at the port — Port Olímpic, Port Vell or Marina Vela, depending on the boat — the cake and decor are already on board, and the skipper heads out along the Barceloneta with your playlist on. Half an hour later the boat anchors off the beach or in a Garraf cove: a swim, paddleboards, nibbles and drinks. The candles are blown out with the city behind you and, on an afternoon trip, the ride back lands on the sunset. The boat is chosen by number of guests and vibe: the sailboat is the cheapest for small groups, the catamaran the most stable and spacious for dancing and swimming, and the big catamaran the only option above 30 people.

Food, cake and music

Cake, food and music on board: what works and what doesn’t

The cake boards before you do and goes in the on-board fridge; normal candles blow out in the breeze, so we use LED candles or cold sparklers that hold. Food depends on the hours: for 2 hours the included nibbles are enough; with 3 or 4 hours there's room for a paella or barbecue (big catamaran), a paella or sushi masterclass with a chef (Port Vell catamarans) or tapas and a three-course menu (sailboats). Music: every boat has a Bluetooth speaker for your playlist; the big catamaran has a sound system and takes a DJ (external +€210 and a €1,500 deposit).

Decor: balloons, garlands and letters are set up on deck before boarding — in the cockpit on sailboats, on the bow net and in the saloon on catamarans. Your own drinks: most operators include a selection and let you upgrade to an open bar; we confirm it with the chosen boat. Children are welcome on every boat; tell us their ages for life jackets and to adjust the swim stop.

Why organise the birthday on a boat with an event agency

Hiring a boat is easy; getting the cake there cold, the decor to survive the wind, the surprise guests hidden in time and the skipper to know when to bring out the candles is not. We compare five operators in Barcelona and Sitges and know which allows your own decor, which has a fridge for the cake and which minimum applies at weekends. Per boat: an 11-seat sailboat from €399 (2 hours, Monday to Thursday), a 26-seat catamaran from €810, a big catamaran for 50–126 guests from €2,150. Per person with the boat full: €36–55 on the sailboat, €31–54 on the 26-seat catamaran and €35–65 on the big catamaran. Cake and decor add about €135 per boat. 2026 rates, VAT included.

Two hours for drinks and a swim; three or four if you want to eat on board, swim properly and blow out the candles at sunset. An extra hour costs 25–30 % more.

Yes. The cake goes in the boat’s fridge and the decor is set up before you arrive. We use LED candles or cold sparklers because normal candles blow out in the breeze. If you bring your own cake, tell us the size so we reserve fridge space.

On the 26-seat catamaran, 10 people Monday to Thursday and 15 Friday to Sunday. Sailboats and the 12-seat catamaran have no minimum: the price is per boat. For more than 30 guests, the big catamaran.

Yes: nibbles and fruit are included; for a full meal, paella or barbecue on board, tapas (€35 per person), a three-course menu (€75) or a paella, sushi or cocktail masterclass with a chef on the Port Vell catamarans.

Your playlist plays through the Bluetooth speaker on any boat. A DJ only fits on the big catamaran: external DJ +€210 and a €1,500 deposit, or the operator’s DJ on request.

Yes, one of the formats we organise most: guests board 20 minutes early and wait in the saloon or below deck; the birthday person arrives “for a boat ride” and finds them on deck.

Yes, on every boat. Tell us their ages: life jackets are on board and we adjust the swim stop and the menu. For a kids’ birthday with entertainment, a catamaran is best — stable and spacious.

If wind or sea conditions make it unsafe, the operator moves the date or refunds. If you cancel: free up to 48 hours before on the sailboats (72 if food is booked); on the catamarans, per the terms we send with the price.

In high season — June to August and weekends in May, September and October — 2 to 4 weeks. Weekdays and winter usually need only a few days; the cake needs 48 hours.
